Welcome to James Fairhurst bespoke jewellery.
A jewellery designer for over 30 years, I create unique, eye-catching fine jewellery. From a statement pendant to an elegant engagement ring, my pieces of jewellery are original, handmade in my studio at The Maltings in Farnham, Surrey and crafted to be worn and cherished. They are often centred around rare and unusual coloured gemstones; in fact, balancing these striking combinations of colours has, over the years, become a recognisable trademark.
Rare gemstones
Like many of my customers, I love the sheer beauty and endless variety of high-grade, natural gemstones. I often visit the world’s leading gemstone fairs and building relationships with individual gem dealers is one of the most exciting aspects of my work. I keep a comprehensive selection of loose gemstones available to view at my studio. Customers often browse this collection and are struck by a stone or combination of stones they really like. From that ‘encounter’ a commissioned piece of jewellery will develop. Do get in touch if you would like to arrange an appointment to view the collection.
Artisan craftsmanship
It all begins with an idea – and often with a stunning stone. Ideally, I like to work person-to-person with a customer, whether in the studio or via a video link online. This tends to yield the best results. A conversation takes place, sketches are drawn, models made. Once we settle on a design the skilled work can then begin at the bench. Further down the line the result is a uniquely crafted piece of jewellery handmade for an individual customer.

Weddings and engagements are so special that they deserve the perfect ring to match the occasion. This is a piece of jewellery that you are likely to wear and treasure for the rest of your life, so you'll want it to be one of a kind – reflecting something of you and your special relationship. Over the years, I have had the pleasure and satisfaction of creating unique wedding and engagement rings for many newly engaged couples. The ring may show off an unusually cut coloured diamond to brilliant effect or pair princess-cut white diamonds with a stunning gemstone.
